What is the Cultural Maroon Trek?
A five-day trek through the Upper Suriname area visiting three Maroon villages, with an immersion in daily life in the village of Jaw Jaw. Unlike the lodge arrangements you keep moving; a minimum of five participants applies.
Stay put or trek?
That is the core choice at five days. At Danpaati and Pingpe you stay in one place and make excursions from there. On the Maroon Trek you travel between villages. The first is more comfortable, the second gives more variety.
What does Back-to-Basic mean at five days?
At Pingpe it means two days deep in the jungle, sleeping in a hammock with a mosquito net beside a creek and fishing for Anjoemara among others. The remaining nights you stay at the riverside resort.
Which days does Danpaati depart?
Danpaati departs Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, travelling both ways by bus and boat. Pingpe picks you up between 8.00 and 8.30 am in central Paramaribo.
