Explore the Suriname jungle on a unique Gran Rio Sintiadam expedition 6 day tour. A perfect back-to-basic expedition, ideal for travelers who want to experience the natural beauty of Suriname. Learn survival skills while going back-to-basics with hammock nights, traditional fishing and cooking on a wood fire. Discover the wilderness of Suriname in a unique and rich way. You will also be introduced to Maroon culture. During the tour, you will take a village walk, allowing you to see how the locals live in the interior.

Departure time: 08.00 from Torarica Resort
Back in Paramaribo on the last day: ± 5 p.m.

Attention: During the dry season, the cruise takes 5-6 hours.

Program

Day 1: Travel day to Kumalu/Ping Pe

  • 08.00-09.00 Departure from Paramaribo to Pokigron (3/4 hour drive).
  • 12:00 arrival in Pokigron where we take the boat for our door trip to Kumalu or Pingpe.
  • Sailing past about 30 villages toward Kumalu (3/4 hour boat ride).
  • Arrival at Kumalu or Ping Pe island, overnight in beds (lodge without air conditioning or fan).

Day 2: Boat trip to Sintiadam

  • 08:00 departure by boat.
  • Boating along Tapawatra/ Gran dam rapids, requiring guests to disembark several times.
  • Arrive at Kajana village after 2/3 hours, pick up lunch and supplies.
  • Sail to Sintiadam with a stop at the Awaradam rapids.
  • Arrival at Sintiadam after 6:00/19:00 pm with outings. In the evening there will be a campfire.
  • Overnight in hammock camp.

Day 3: Hiking to Turtle Mountain

  • 08:00 departure by boat, followed by a 20-minute nature tour.
  • Hiking to Turtle Mountain, about 5 km out and 5 km back.
  • Return at Sintiadam around 4pm/17pm.
  • Overnight in hammock camp.

Day 4: Morning boat ride and evening activities.

  • +/- 06:00 morning boat ride: wake up on the river with coffee from you.
  • Morning walk between 9 a.m. and noon with explanations of flora and fauna.
  • Afternoon swimming and/or fishing at Sintia Dam.
  • Night important after dinner to observe night sounds and animals.
  • Overnight in the hammock camp.

Day 5: Village Exploration and Return to Kumalu/ Ping Pe

  • Departure to the villages with a 3-hour stop for extended village walks in 2/3 villages.
  • Lunch in one of the villages in the afternoon.
  • Continued the journey to Kumalu/ Ping Pe.
  • Overnight in beds (lodge without air conditioning or fan).

Day 6: Return to Paramaribo

  • Around 07:00 – 07:30 departure by boat back to Atjoni.
  • Visit to the dam (Afobaka Dam) on the way back.
  • Afternoon lunch in one of the villages.
  • +/- 16.00 hours arrival in Paramaribo

Handy take-home list

Long pants and long sleeve shirt: To protect you from insects and vigorous plants. In the evening, it can also be cold.

Good walking shoes: For protection of your feet and for during long walks.

Towel: To dry yourself

Mosquito Milk: To protect you from insect bites during the tour.

Sunscreen: For sun protection.

Flashlight/headlamp: A flashlight or headlamp is useful for illumination during evening activities or in dark areas.

Swimwear: Bring swimwear for bathing opportunities and refreshment.

Toiletries: Personal care products such as toothpaste, soap and shampoo for hygiene on the go.

Passport: Required due to checkpoint on the way!

Camera & good batteries: A camera is essential to capture the beautiful surroundings. Make sure the batteries are fully charged so you don’t miss any memorable moments.

Raincoat/poncho:

A comfortable backpack: The handy thing is a big backpack that can hold all your stuff and a small bag to keep with you when you visit the village.

Waterproof bag tbv electronics and valuables: In case you want to keep these items safe.

Storm/bad weather:

The tour company has the right at any time before the departure time, to cancel the trip/ tour in case of unforeseeable weather conditions. The activity/ tour will be rescheduled on another date.

Cancel
If cancelled up to 15 days before departure, a 75% refund will be honored.
For cancellation between the 14th and the 7day before departure, a 50% refund will be honored.
For cancellations 6 days or less before departure, unfortunately no refunds will be honored.
