Around half past five, Paramaribo changes colour. The heat lifts off the city, the Suriname River catches the last of the light, and from the water you see the capital the way few visitors ever do: low, wide and completely at ease. This three-hour evening cruise puts you right in the middle of it.
You board a classic saloon boat at the Broki on the Waterkant. After a short introduction to the crew and a welcome drink with a snack, the ship casts off. You glide slowly past the historic waterfront — the wooden colonial facades, the jetties where daily life plays out, the villas further along and the green banks behind them.
On board there is room to simply let it happen. A sun deck for those who want the view, comfortable seating in the shade for those who would rather catch up, a bar and a toilet. As the sky above the river turns orange and then fades to purple, a steady breeze cools the evening. Around half past eight the ship moors again — just in time to carry the evening on into town.
