Rincon Village is the oldest village on Bonaire and rich in history. It is also the oldest community within the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Initially populated by the Spanish in the early 1500s, Rincon was strategically located in a valley to ward off imminent danger from pirates and other threats. <\/p>\n
In the 17th century, slaves were brought to Bonaire and worked on the farmland and the salt pans until 1863. Deep in Rincon lived the slave men who made a 7-hour journey south for work and returned on weekends to gather supplies at Mangazina di Rei (the king’s storehouse) and visit their families. <\/p>\n
We will stop at the Cadushi Distillery, where you can taste the local cactus liqueur made on Bonaire for free. <\/p>\n
After visiting Cadushi, we will stop at our last stop – a local restaurant called Posada.
