Meet the playful dolphins and the impressive caimans during our unique tour in Suriname! Led by an experienced guide, you will sail in a traditional tent boat across the river and go in search of these fascinating animals in their natural habitat. This adventurous tour offers a perfect mix of nature and excitement. Experience the wilderness of Suriname and discover the beautiful flora and fauna!
We start with spotting curious river dolphins, followed by a visit to historic Johanna Margaretta plantation for a short walk.
While we are on our way to Johanna Margaretta we will also look for river dolphins. In the brackish water rivers of Suriname you can find the Guyana dolphins. This unique dolphin species can be recognized by their pink belly. The dolphins often come in groups when they are catching fish. The dolphins are very playful and curious, which makes it very likely that they will come very close. On our way we see the transition of the Suriname river into the Commewijne river and we sail past Fort Nieuw Amsterdam.
Once we arrive at the plantation we take a walk through the plantation towards Mrs. Dipai's house. Here we enjoy local freshly baked roti and a cool drink. Mrs. Dipai's house is located on the main canal.
When our bellies are full again, we board the boat and sail up the channel to the swamp area. As soon as we reach the swamp area, we go in search of the spectacled caiman. When we have found a caiman, the boatman will try to catch it in an animal-friendly way. You will have enough time to take pictures of the caiman and in the meantime the guide will tell you more fun facts about caimans. Spotting caimans takes about 40 minutes to an hour.
