Description
Burr Point is a naturally formed beach of sand and shells, which has become evident as of 2012. It came into being after the well-known Matapica laying beach fell away due to land loss and sand and clay particles flowed westward with the current. For years, turtles have been coming to the beaches of the Surinamese coast to lay their eggs. Which is especially interesting for students to experience.
The sea turtle season starts around the end of January and ends in July. Especially the month of June is suitable to go to the beach because the 2 of the four species of turtles, which come to Suriname, lay their eggs and there is also a chance to see baby turtles crawling on the beach.
When: Daily on request
Travel time by boat: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Tour time: from 5:00 PM to approximately 11:00 PM
Location: At the Leonsberg jetty (don’t wait for the jetty)
Minimum of 4 people
At least 10 years old
Languages: Dutch, English & Surinamese
Including: Guide, Snacks, Hot meal, Non-alcoholic drinks
Please note: During the visit to the sea turtles, our company follows the WWF (World Wildife Fund) guidelines. This is to prevent the sea turtles from being disturbed during their process. The guides are trained to follow these rules, which they will also explain to the guests.
Dress code:
Dark clothing: Sea turtles have blurry vision outside the water, so they are very careful about anything that moves around them. We limit their ability to see us by wearing dark (preferably black) clothing, including:
Long pants (or zip-off pants), so you don’t have to worry about skin irritating plants, ticks or mosquitoes while hiking.
A long-sleeved shirt or jacket for the cold and to prevent easy access by mosquitoes.
Comfortable boots or running shoes because we are going for a walk. Leave the new shoes at home; the last thing you want is blisters.
Storm/bad weather:
The tour company reserves the right at any time before the time of departure, to cancel the trip/ tour in case of unforeseeable weather conditions. The activity/ tour will be rescheduled on another date.
If cancelled between the 14th and the 7th day before departure, a 50% refund will be honored.
If cancelled 6 days or less before departure, unfortunately no refund will be honored.
