Discover the ultimate border adventure from Paramaribo to Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guiana in just 2.5 hours. Board a dugout canoe and cross the Marowijne River, where you’ll embrace the French atmosphere in the historic town. Explore the Moiwana Monument, enjoy a boat ride, and marvel at the French tropics. Follow the historical route related to the Internal War and immerse yourself in its rich history.
During the bus trip, you will pass some historical sites such as Stolkertsijver and the Moiwana monument, which remind locals of the Surinamese internal war (1980s).
You will first visit the bagno (prison), founded in 1858 and around which this town originated. This bagno is now used as a museum and is best known for the film L’affaire Seznec and the film adaptation of the book Papillon.
After the visit to the Bagno, you will walk past some shops and the market where different population groups sell their products. During the return trip to Paramaribo we will make a stop for lunch.

Handy take-home list
Hat or cap: So you can protect your face from the tropical sun.
Good hiking shoes: You will be hiking a lot so make sure you have good comfortable shoes.
Camera & well charged batteries: There will be many beautiful sights that you can take beautiful pictures of.
Raincoat/poncho: If it starts to rain.
Suntan lotion: For sun protection.
Backpack: To put your personal belongings in. Possibly souvenirs etc.
Small change SRD/ Euro (for alcoholic drinks and souvenirs): € you will need when you are in French Guiana if you are going to buy something. You will also need €’s for the bagno (prison).
Passport: Mandatory due to checkpoint on the way.
Storm/bad weather:
The tour company reserves the right at any time before the time of departure, to cancel the trip/ tour in case of unforeseeable weather conditions. The activity/ tour will be rescheduled on another date.
If cancelled between the 14th and the 7th day before departure, a 50% refund will be honored.
If cancelled 6 days or less before departure, unfortunately no refund will be honored.
