This tour starts in Kralendijk, our capital. Due to the natural coral structure surrounding the island, Kralendijk is also known as “coral dike.” The highlights in the south of Bonaire are rich in history and beauty, with spectacular ocean views and historic architecture. As you explore the area and take in the sights, your local guide will provide information about the region’s wildlife, economy, and attractions. We will stop to take pictures at the salt flats, the White or Yellow Slave Houses and also the lighthouse. As we travel past the great salt hills, which have been part of Bonaire’s history since the 17th century, we will make our way to Sorobon Beach for a break on the beach. The entire island of Bonaire is a protected marine park, and Sorobon Beach is in the middle of it. A bay hidden among mangrove trees will take your breath away. Water up to your knees runs as far as the eye can see. The seagrass meadows attract a variety of marine life, so don’t be alarmed if a turtle slowly passes by.
