Plantation Rust en Werk is a former coffee plantation that you can visit by bike. Today’s Javanese village is known for its cattle ranching, aquaculture, and the delicious local snacks you can taste along the way. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by friendly villagers and guided by a beautiful green landscape that encompasses much more than just agriculture and cattle breeding. During this guided bike tour you will discover the village and the former plantation areas. You have the choice to explore by bike or to take a ride with the famous “guest tractor”, which takes you through the old plantation past special locations. Everywhere you look, you’ll find traces of its rich past, including historic bridges, ancient waterways, and monuments that tell the story of the plantation. An absolute highlight is visiting the governor’s tombs from the 18th century. Among others, the two daughters of Governor-General Wigbold Crommelin are buried here — silent witnesses of a time when the plantation played an important role in Suriname’s history.
