Isadou Island, located on the Upper Suriname River opposite the famous Maroon village of Jaw Jaw, is popular not only for its impressive rapids with accompanying sandy beaches, but also for the tranquility the place exudes. Isadou is one of the few locations with authentic lodging cabins managed by a local Maroon couple. The tour to Isadou is unique because it is designed to actively involve the local Marron population, giving them the opportunity to benefit from tourism in Suriname. All operations, from cooking to guide services, are entrusted to enthusiastic locals who are committed to providing guests with an enjoyable experience. At Isadou, you can still truly experience the charm of traditional customs and manners.
During this tour, you will visit 1 or 2 maroon villages, boating and/or swimming in rapids, exciting evening boat ride and impressive forest walks, among others.

Program
Day 1:
- Start from Paramaribo with a bus ride to Atjoni.
- Continuation of the journey by motorized korjaal to Isadou.
- Installation in simple cabana on arrival.
- Tasty hot lunch.
- Opportunity for a refreshing swim and admiration of sulas (rapids).
Day 2:
- Start the day with a delicious breakfast at Isadou.
- Visit a nearby Maroon village to experience the ancient culture.
- Return to Isadou for a hot lunch.
- Free time for swimming or relaxing in a hammock.
- Evening activity: night boat excursion to spot animals.
Day 3:
- Last morning on Isadou with breakfast and optional* forest walk.
- Lunch at Isadou.
- Departure back to Paramaribo.
* If interested in the forest walk, please indicate this when booking.
Handy take-home list
Extra power bank: Electricity is not there all day, from evening hours until about 6am.
Good walking shoes: For protection of your feet and for during long walks.
Towel (for swimming): A towel comes in handy during swimming activities or to dry yourself off after water adventures.
Hat or cap: So you can protect your face from the tropical sun.
Long pants and long sleeve shirt: To protect you from insects and irritating plants.
Mosquito Milk: To protect you from insect bites during the tour.
Raincoat/poncho: For unexpected showers.
Toiletries: Personal care products such as toothpaste, soap and shampoo for hygiene on the go.
Water shoes: Special shoes for water activities prevent slipping and protect your feet.
Flashlight/headlamp: A flashlight or headlamp is useful for illumination during evening activities or in dark areas.
Sunscreen: For sun protection.
Backpack: For when hiking to store personal items.
Dry clothes: Extra clothes to change after water activities and in case you get wet.
Change SRD: Change is useful for local purchases, drinks and souvenirs.
Camera & well-charged batteries: A camera is essential to capture the beautiful surroundings. Make sure the batteries are fully charged so you don’t miss any memorable moments.
Passport: Required due to checkpoint en route!
Storm/bad weather:
The tour company has the right at any time before the departure time, to cancel the trip/ tour in case of unforeseeable weather conditions. The activity/ tour will be rescheduled on another date.
For cancellation between the 14th and the 7day before departure, a 50% refund will be honored.
For cancellations 6 days or less before departure, unfortunately no refunds will be honored.
